Active ImageWelcome to our School

Central Foundation Girls' School is an exciting place to work and learn. It is a large, oversubscribed, and inclusive 11-18 inner-city girls' school in Bow, London. It has an excellent reputation both locally and nationally. The DCSF designated Central Foundation as a High Performing School and in March 2006 Ofsted categorised the school as ‘good’, praising us for inclusion and academic progress, especially in the Sixth Form.

During 2007 – 8 we have had yet another set of record examination results . With 60% A* - C grades at GCSE and 47% counting English and Maths, we are the most improved school in Tower Hamlets. Our Sixth Form results are outstanding, and at A Level we are in the top 15% of schools for value added nationally.

Already a Performing Arts Specialist School, we have now developed a second specialism, which we call ‘Voice’. This draws together a whole school focus on communication, empowerment and democracy through the subject areas of English and Citizenship. It means we are all working together to educate tomorrow’s women, enabling our students to achieve academic excellence and self fulfilment. We aim to promote their development as leaders, champions of environmental sustainability and active citizens.

Visitors often comment on the happy atmosphere of the school, and we take pride in our community spirit. Students’ safety and wellbeing is our priority, and we have well developed systems of pastoral support, with an emphasis on respect, rights and responsibility. The ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity of our community is a great strength, and we actively promote equality of opportunity. This includes excellent provision for students of all abilities, particularly the gifted and talented.

The school’s location in Bow , an area of London with a rich historical legacy, and easy access to the City provide a plethora of enrichment opportunities for our students. They have all the inspiration and support needed to become the confident, articulate and competent young women who leave our sixth form to go on to further achievements each year.

You will find out more from our website, and I warmly welcome all our visitors and current as well as future students.
